Summer and Fall 2018
Long time, no see! With classes, internships, extracurriculars, and trips, I haven't had too much time to update my blog. But with the end of the semester approaching, I thought it was time to reflect and update you on my Summer 2018 and my Fall Semester at Georgetown!
To get things started, I've put together two videos from my Senior Fall at Georgetown. You can check them out below!
Coming back from Sydney was definitely bittersweet, but I didn’t have too much time to think about it because I started my summer internship less than 48 hours after I landed back in the United States.
This summer, I interned at AvidXchange in Charlotte, NC on the Corporate Development team. AvidXchange is a venture-backed technology company that is the largest B2B payment network in the United States. As an intern, my main responsibilities included managing the company’s deal pipeline, performing due diligence on prospective investment opportunities, and working closely with the Head of Corporate Development. I had an amazing time working with the AvidXchange team, and I’m excited to see the company continue to grow!
Outside of my internship, some of the highlights from my summer included…
Reuniting with family and friends who I had not seen for the past five months
Heading down to Kiawah Island, SC with the family for a few long weekends
Spending time with several Georgetown friends in New York, NY
Visiting my grandparents and family members in Belgrade Lakes, ME
Exploring new restaurants and spending time with friends back in Charlotte, NC
All in all, it was a fantastic summer! While I did miss Sydney at times, it was nice to finally take a breather and enjoy some time back at home.
At first, heading back to Georgetown for my senior year felt surreal - time certainly does fly. However, after settling in, I charged full-force ahead.
This semester, I took five classes at Georgetown - Business Financial Management, Operations Management, Imagination & Creativity, Visual Anthropology, and The Ethnographic Imagination. Additionally, I served as the Co-President of the GU Eating Society as well as a peer mentor for the Carroll Fellows Initiative and Flourishing: College and Community. As a peer mentor, I assisted five freshmen and four sophomores find their place on the Hilltop.
However, the bulk of my time this semester was spent applying and interviewing for post-graduation jobs. While the recruitment process had its highs and lows, I am incredibly excited to join The Voleon Group, a quantitative hedge fund based in Berkeley, CA, as an Associate after graduation. I will be moving to San Francisco, CA in July, and I’m excited to learn a lot and explore California!
Besides all of that, some of the highlights of my semester included…
Serving as a Captain for New Student Orientation and helping Georgetown’s incoming students adjust to life on the Hilltop
Celebrating the marriage of my cousin and his new wife in Pawley’s Island, SC
Reuniting with my sister and parents for Addison’s sorority cocktail in Chapel Hill, NC
Tailgating at the University of Southern California and adventuring around Los Angeles, CA with Lily
Cheers-ing at José Andrés’ signature cocktail bar, Barmini, for my 22nd Birthday
Exploring all of the food, neighborhoods, and nature San Francisco, CA
Going to the All Things Go Music Festival with Mary in Washington, D.C.
Spending some time with my parents in Kiawah Island, SC for Thanksgiving
Co-leading the GU Eating Society and eating my way through Washington, D.C. with Brittany
And many more!
It’s crazy to think that I only have one semester at Georgetown left, so I’m trying to make every minute count. Graduation here I come!
